Figure 13: Paleofacies of the Early Cretaceous. This time period spanned the deposition of the Aarda, Zubair, Buwaib, Biyadh, Lekhwair, and Kharaib formations, and their regional equivalents [MFS K40 to intra-K70]. Sediments were deposited in shallow-marine shelf and intrashelf settings on the Arabian Plate passive margin with Neo-Tethys, and were influenced by the strong clastic sediment supply of the Zubair delta to the west.
