Figure 11: Paleofacies of the Late Jurassic. This time period spanned the deposition of the Arab, Hith, and Gotnia formations, and their regional equivalents [MFS J70 to K10; base of AP8 is at 149 Ma]. Deposition of vaporates was widespread. A new passive margin developed along the southeastern coast of Oman following continental rifting and sea-floor spreading between the Afro-Arabian and Indian plates.
