This zone is formed by interlocking arrays of oppositely dipping faults and is typically found above obtusely oriented basement transfer faults or in offset-orthogonal rift systems (cf. Figures 7, 8, 10a). (b) Conceptual 3-D model of an accommodation zone oblique to the dominant extension direction. The zone is formed by interlocking arrays of oppositely dipping faults and is typically found internally in the analog models and has variable amounts of associated oblique shear (e.g., Figures 8, 9, 10b).
