“NOTABLE” DISCOVERIES DURING 2000
The list that follows, from AAPG Explorer, January 2001, is a geographical listing of “notable” discoveries of 2000 (as of December 1, 2000), including field name (in bold print), well name, and production report. These data are reported in IHS Energy Group’s International Oil Letter, and the list was provided to AAPG Explorer courtesy of IHS Petroconsultants, Houston.
The world’s top discoveries of 2000 are listed in Table 1. Inasmuch as deepwater discoveries are prominent on the list, the reserves (Figure 1) and the average size (Figure 2) of deepwater fields identified for development in the first half of this decade are noteworthy. The well information on West Africa is supplemented by a list of deepwater fields in that region (Table 2).
