Figure 11. Sequence of diagrammatic east-west cross-sections, showing the depositional history of the West Carney Hunton Field.
A: The Cochrane Formation was deposited on the Sylvan Shale. A fossiliferous limestone macrofacies was deposited in the central part of the field, and a nonporous carbonate mudstone facies was deposited on its flanks. An unconformity exists within the Cochrane formation, but it is not shown here.
B: Fall in relative sea level resulted in erosion of Cochrane rocks. The central part of the field was more resistive to erosion than the flanks of the field.
C: Relative sea level rose, resulting in the deposition of the Clarita Formation, which now is primarily a dolomite facies.
D: Fall in relative sea level resulted in an erosional unconformity at the top of the Clarita Formation on the flanks of the field and on the Cochrane Formation in the central part of the field.
E: Relative sea level rose, resulting in deposition of the Woodford Shale.
