(b) Intermediate stage: essentially clean sand continues to build onto the point bar by lateral accretion. (c) Later stage prior to meander cut-off: IHS develops on downstream portion of meander loop. Eventually, meander cut-off will cause temporary straightening of the channel and formation of an oxbow lake in the abandoned portion of the channel.
