Exploration and Development Strategies for Sub-Andean Tight Rock Reservoirs

Abstract

Unabated development of world class tight rock reservoirs in North America poses an existential threat to current energy market dynamics. Continued technology advances, production efficiency gains, coupled with the build out of large-scale LNG export infrastructure, signals the dawn of a new era of global low-cost natural gas supply. Using the West Canadian Sedimentary Basin (WCSB) as a geologic and commercial reference, the authors will discuss exploration strategies and development protocols likely required in analogous tight rock resource rich Sub-Andean basins in Bolivia and beyond, so as to compete in markets threatened with prolonged oversupply.
