Geomechanics in Unconventional Plays

In the last decade, Geomechanics has emerged from a niche drill planning tool to a ubiquitous integrated solution in the upstream petroleum industry. This talk will describe the principals of geome-chanics and how they can assist in understanding unconventional reservoirs, in defining better unconventional targets and in optimizing completion techniques. A case study will be shown to illustrate the application of geomechanics to a naturally fractured shale reservoir.
