Abstract

Good knowledge of reservoir rock types is essential to understand fluid flow behavior and saturation distribution for the establishment of representative static and dynamic reservoir models.

Reservoir rock types (RRT) can be assigned utilizing combined petrophysical rock properties and core descriptions. However in complex carbonate, the task may not be straight forward due to the high degree of heterogeneity where rock properties tend to have significant variations across the reservoir. These rock property variations necessitate the acquisition of proper understanding of geological heterogeneities and their impact on the reservoir models.
