Thanks to the recent developments in geoscience tools, relationship between tectonics, sedimentation and petroleum systems can be investigated. This presentation is focused on the principles and use of Dionisos, a stratigraphic model in integrated basin studies in complex tectonics area.
A Dionisos simulation is performed from the past up to the present taking into account three main geological « processes »: accommodation, supply and transport. The creation of accommodation is defined by eustatic sea-level variations and tectonic deformation, either purely vertical (thermal subsidence, sediment loading, ...), or more complex, induced by growth faults and salt diapirs. The supply of sediment may be a clastic inflow introduced into the basin by rivers, or a carbonate growth in marine environments controlled by water depth, wave energy and ecology. Finally, sediments may be transported through out the basin by long-term and short-term gravity processes (water-driven diffusion model), and reworked in nearshore environments by marine currents. The aim is to present the physical processes and the mathematical model based on diffusion equations. We illustrate the filling of the basin by gravity deposit, river flow or carbonates growth through a large range of cases.
